1.    Qutb Shahi Tombs, Hyderabad

There are an elegant series of tombs all over the city of Hyderabad. Qutb Shahi tombs and Paigah tombs are worth a visit. Qutb Shahi Tombs are the tombs of the Qutb Shahi dynasty. These lie to the northwest of Golconda fort. There are more than 20 tombs in one place and it is actually famous for “Seven tombs of the Qutb Shahi rulers”. They have a common form, an onion dome, on top of a cube, surrounded by an ornamental arcade. Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah, who was the founder of Hyderabad, had the grandest of  the tombs and it was built in 1612.

2.    Paigah Tombs

Paigah tombs or Maqhbara Shams al-Umara are the tombs belonging to the Paigah noble family. It is spread over 30-40 acres of land and was built around the 18th century. The tombs are known for its marvelous carvings and lattice work. Paigah tombs are located 10 kms from the heart of the city. You could hire a local taxi or an auto-rickshaw or also board a bus from the nearest bus depot.
 

3.    Charminar

Charminar formed the square or center of the city and it acted as a formal approach to the royal palace in the 16th century. Now Charminar is the city emblem and symbol. The notable feature are the 4 minarets which has spiral staircases which rises 160 feet above the ground. The structure is made of plaster and stone and has survived 4 centuries. You should not miss visiting the Choodi Bazaar which is a very popular market for bangles.
 

4.    Golconda Fort

Golconda Fort is one of the most magnificent forts in India. It is about 800 years old and is located 11 kms from Hyderabad. The fort stretches to 10 kms and it is said to be an engineering marvel. One hand clap at a certain point could be heard at the highest point of the pavilion almost a km away. This was said to be used as a warning for the royals incase of an attack. Each night at 7 p.m. there is a sound and light show which you can watch.
 

5.    Falaknama Palace

If you want to see a palace, you should make a visit to the Falaknama palace. Though it is not open for general public, you can book a day tour and you can see the captivating palace. This palace has now been converted into a hotel. The Nizams ruled Hyderabad for two centuries and of the 17 palaces that they had in Hyderabad, this was their favorite. Huge chandeliers, marble, wood adorn the palace. The single dining table can seat 101 people. The palace is 2000 feet above the ground level and the sunrise and sunset from the hotel is spectacular.

This clock tower is 120 feet high and was constructed in 1860 by the British officers posted during this time in Secunderabad. It is located in a 10 acre park. You can drive by to have a look at this tower.
 

7.    Mecca Masjid

Mecca or Makkah Masjid is one of the oldest mosques in Hyderabad. It is located near Charminar. The prayer hall is above 75 feet and can house 10000 people. The structure is built in granite and has beautiful interiors. The arches embellish frescoes and floral motifs.
